» A Word of Encouragement for these Trouble Times in Honduras

REFLECTION

Proyecto Aldea Global (PAG), a pioneer of primary health prevention in Honduras in coordination with the Secretary of Health at the local and regional level and with experience in training health volunteers, wishes to remind the rural and urban population in Honduras that in these difficult circumstances due to the COVID 19 pandemic, we all are vulnerable and could potentially transmit this virus with or without close physical contact with others. COVID 19 is an acute respiratory disease that manifests itself with a fever greater than or equal to 38 degrees Celsius and one or more of the following symptoms: cough, dyspnea or chest tightness.

Please note that this disease spreads rapidly from person to person and it manifests in different ways, from mild to moderate and to severe symptoms which include: pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis and septic shock. Therefore, the first rule to maintain one’s health is obedience to the health authorities by complying with preventive measures such as staying inside our houses, washing our hands frequently with soap and water, and cleaning surfaces.

We are aware that families in rural communities have food shortages. We encourage everyone to share with those who are in need without violating the biosafety measures on which the health of each one depends. To the population that is able to purchase food or those who have their pantries filled with food, please remember that quality of food is more important over quantity. Let's be supportive and become aware of the needs of the most vulnerable to this pandemic that does not discriminate against any race, age, religion, political color or social rank.

Lastly and most importantly, let’s continue to depend on our God, the Creator of the universe who knows our needs and has given us a word of promise. Romans 8:28 states: “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, that is, those who are called according to his purpose”. Through this pandemic, we have been made aware that:

a) We are fragile and mortal human being.
b) There´s no way out of any situation apart from complete dependence on the Supreme Being, our Creator.
c) We can go to Him during these difficult moments, “Do not be anxious for anything but, in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6-7.
d) This land is not our permanent home and that God is sovereign in everything and forever! Let’s put our trust in Him and in harmony let’s take this situation as an opportunity for obedience and respect for all! Let's be responsible and stay inside our houses for everyone’s well-being!
